This picture is symbolic of my life. I get doing something (like making bread) and get side-tracked by hundreds of various other "high priority" demands, like--refereeing full-blown riots (I stay out of the small ones), changing diapers and/or anything associated with body waste, unearthing that lost library book or the favorite article of clothing in the pile of dirty laundry, supervising various creative projects, and answering the phone when David calls and wonders what I am up to!
I guess in reality though what I am really doing is raising kids and sometimes I get “side-tracked” from that, by things like sewing, painting, reading, and making bread. I guess life is really teaching my kids all the things that bring me happiness. And the reward is when I see my own children teaching theirs the things that I tried to do. It just seems like so much of what I do is left undone or not quite finished how I want it to be, but I guess in the long run—looking back over the years, the small things really do add up—or at least they had better!

I'm impressed that you are even making bread with everything else you have going on! You are way ahead of me. You do a lot of amazing things with your children that I'm sure they will remember for years to come.
Ahhh, Marilyn . . . . you've got it! One of my nick-names for Pete is "Splash and Thrash," symbolic of the way he dives into things and thrashes around splashing everywhere--you should see the sink after he uses it! I'm the one who follows up and finishes or cleans up his messes. I've often thought that you, Marilyn, are somewhat like him in that way. You dive into projects with a vengance and do some splashing and thashing of your own. However, you probably have to clean up your own messes! I'm always amazed at how many things you have going and how much you get done. The picture of the bread dough overflowing says a lot, though. Obviously you were involved in more important matters with your family. You're awesome!
That picture and your analogy are hilarious! I enjoy starting new projects but have such a hard time finishing anything! You are amazing and I look up to you so much.
Oh Marilyn. I get it. But, right this moment what I think is funny is that I have a picture just like this from my mission....where was the sidetrack on P-day?
